My name is Carol. I am a parent and a retired teacher. My 45 years of teaching experience provided me the opportunity to educate young people and at the same time “mother” many. Far too many high school students and even the occasional college student have not had the benefit of parents that were there for them. It was that natural mothering instinct that brought them to my door for friendship, advice, and an unlimited supply of unconditional caring.
An article written in the Tulsa World more than 30 years ago best describes me as a parent, “Mother by Choice”. I became the single mother, by choice, of a 6-week-old boy that was in desperate need of a special brand of love and attention. Though the next years were strewn with challenges, I was able to develop my own style of parenting that often flew in the face of traditional wisdom. With the constant support of my sister, a child therapist, I was able to watch my son grow into a remarkable young man. A young man who rose above tremendous odds to become a loving and productive man who continues to make my heart sing.
Having been raised in an education family, the importance of education on young people was always at the forefront. I have a B.S. and a M.S. in education from University of Central Oklahoma and a continuing list of courses allowing me to explore the many ways to touch the lives of young people.
